There’s a piece in the Los Angeles Times with two perspectives about whether shows like the Biggest Loser are helpful or not. I’m unclear how anyone can believe, that for most people, these sorts of shows are effective for life-long sustainability. Sure, they might “inspire” some to try and lose weight. But there’s an enormous chasm between starting a new behavior and sticking with it for life. We need more edutainment that addresses the sustainability phase of behavior change! In fact, that phase is simply all of LIFE; the good, the bad and the ugly. We already know that makes for popular viewing, right?
